AI Governance

AI governance is the written answer to who may use AI, with which data, in which decision, under which oversight.

AI governance is the written answer to who may use AI, with which data, in which decision. It does not have to be a heavy compliance project: a three-to-five page framework that is clear and applicable is the right start for most mid-sized organisations. Length is not the point; an employee finding the answer in ten seconds is.

The framework contains five components: usage policy, risk classification, human oversight rules, data privacy and regulatory compliance, and logging and audit trail. Risk classification is the critical one; auditing every use equally either clogs the process or leads to the rules being ignored. Summarising an internal note and publishing customer-facing content cannot carry the same oversight.

“A human checks it” is not enough on its own. Who checks, what do they check, within what time, and what happens on objection? Those four questions must be in writing and oversight must be embedded in the process: without the approval step, output cannot move to the next stage.

Frequently asked questions

How long does ai governance work take?
It depends on scope. For ai governance, diagnosis of 1–3 weeks, main work of 4–10 weeks and rollout of 2–4 weeks are typical ranges. Organisation size, the number of people in the decision process and current data maturity set those ranges; exact timing is put in writing after the diagnosis session.
Can we buy ai governance on its own?
Yes. During diagnosis we check together whether your problem really sits in ai governance; often a combination of two services produces a better result, and we say so openly at the proposal stage.
How is ai governance priced?
Scope-based. For ai governance the deliverables, duration and the team involved are written item by item into the proposal, so no surprise line appears later. If budget is tight, the scope can be split into layers and continued once the first layer shows a result.
Can our own team run ai governance delivery?
It can. On many projects we build the ai governance decision and system layers while the in-house team continues day-to-day delivery. The guide, templates and training needed for handover are included.
